The women’s cross country team competes Saturday in the Missouri Southern State College Cross Country Stam-pede in Joplin, Mo. Coach Jon Murray said the team will get a good look at several of the top teams in the LSC South Central Region.
“Missouri will be more of a test to see where we are in our region,” said sophomore Cassie Chaffin. “We will run as hard as we can, see where we fit in and know what we need to work towards for the regional meet.”
Murray said the women won’t need much tweaking after winning Friday’s ACU Classic. He said the women will simply try to decrease the time gap between each runner.
One runner who should help this cause will be senior Justine Nahimana, the top returning Wildcat runner, who sat out the ACU Classic. Nahimana finished 10th at the 2000 National Champion-ships, earning all-American status. Nahimana, Chaffin and senior Angie Waters will lead ACU at the Stampede.
One women’s runner, Mollye Stanford, will not run because of injury.
