Volleyball hits road again: 5-3 Wildcats face two NAIA tourney teams in Lubbock

First it was Denton. Then it was Orlando. Next stop: Lubbock.

For the third consecutive weekend, the ACU volleyball team is on the road, competing in three NAIA matches in Lubbock over the next two days.

The Wildcats, 5-3 overall, start Friday night against Loyola (La.) at 7:30 p.m. and play Lubbock Christian University Saturday at noon and Wayland Baptist at 4 p.m. Both Loyola and LCU made appearances in the 2001 NAIA National Tournament.

Head volleyball coach Brek Horn allowed her team to rest this week to give them a chance to prepare for another set of away matches.

“We were ready to get back into practice this week,” Horn said. “We took Monday off because we just got in late Sunday night. We didn’t want to get too drained.”

Horn said that she was proud of the progress of her team and coaches since the preseason.

“I feel good about some of the changes and adjustments I’ve made,” Horn said. “We’re trying to get players used to playing in different positions. The players have adjusted well.”

Horn said she hopes to come away a winner this weekend, but that she also has her sights set ahead to the future.

“I’m excited about this weekend, but I’m also ready to start the conference season,” Horn said.
