Shaw wins last week’s Pitcher-of-the-Week award

ACU senior pitcher Brandon Shaw was recently honored as last week’s Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Shaw, a left-hander who is 4-0 on the season, threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout in a 1-0 victory over Dallas Baptist on April 5. He gave up a one-out single in the bottom of the first inning and then retired the last 20 Patriot hitters.

Men’s tennis team goes 2-3 at Broncho Invitational

The men’s tennis team had a change of plans last weekend after its scheduled match in Lexington, Ky., was canceled. The Wildcats instead played in Edmond, Okla., at the Broncho Invitational.

The Wildcats won their first two matches over Northern Colorado (5-3) on Thursday and over North Eastern Missouri (5-2) on Friday. The men then fell to Drury, a Top 5 team in the nation, 5-0.

On Saturday, ACU was defeated by Southwest Baptist 5-2 and completed the tournament with a close match with conference rival Incarnate Word, losing 5-4.

ACU heads to the Lone Star Conference Tournament this weekend in Wichita Falls.

“Since we lost to Incarnate Word all of the conference rankings are very close,” freshman player Evan Puglia said. “There is about an 80 percent chance that the conference tournament will become a team tournament.”

Depending on the outcome of LSC Tournament, ACU will either host a section of the regional tournament or travel to play Drury. The Central Regional Tournament is scheduled to begin Friday, May 2.
