ACU women look to upend TAMUK

February 6, 2004 by Brian Roe

By Brian Roe, Sports Writer

The ACU Wildcats search for their 13th win of the season 2 p.m. Saturday in Moody against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Wildcats are tied for third place in the LSC South with Angelo State.

The Lions sit near the bottom of the Lone Star Confer-ence South Division with a 6-13 overall record, 3-3 record in conference.

Head coach Shawna Lavender warns against judging a team based only on its record.

“We are not looking at this game as an easy one just because their record isn’t as good as ours,” Lavender said. “There are not any bad teams in our conference.”

King agrees that records can be tossed out in conference play because each team has a chance to win.

“Any team can beat any other team on any given night in this conference,” King said.

The Wildcats were given a boost last week when senior point guard Jenny Jackson returned from injury. Freshman point guard Kristal Robeson filled in for Jackson while she was out with an injury.

“Kristal did an excellent job while Jenny was injured; she has a bright future for us,” Lavender said.

The Wildcats return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. in San Angelo in a rematch against Angelo State. ASU defeated ACU on Jan. 13 in Abilene.
