The women’s tennis team improved to 8-2 on the season with an 8-1 victory over Tarleton State Tuesday at ACU.
Head tennis coach Hutton Jones said he was pleased with the win, yet displeased with the energy level against the TexAnns.
“It was certainly a decisive win over a solid team, but if we had played a better team with the same amount of energy, we might have lost.”
The Wildcats took all five singles matches and won two of three doubles matches over TSU.
“Doubles is a different game than singles,” he said. “It’s like a 50-yard dash every point.”
With the women’s team out to a hot start, Jones said he’s pleased with its progress thus far.
“I’m definitely happy with where we are, but it’s hard to ever be totally satisfied,” he said.
The ACU women play host to Division I opponent Stephen F. Austin Friday at 12:30 p.m.
Last season, the Wildcats easily easily defeated SFA, 9-0, but players say the match will be no cake walk.
“I think we’re favored to win, but we’ll still have to play our best to beat them,” freshman Holly Lindloff said. “I’m glad we’re playing them at home.”
Jones agreed.
“I expect to win, but each match will push us and extend our limits,” he said. “I hope our girls want some tough matches to prepare them for the rest of the season.”
