Sweep lifts Wildcats: ACU outscores Panhandle State 44-5, ups record to 6-6

The baseball team regained some confidence it lost in a four-game home sweep against Incarnate Word by dishing out a sweep of its own last weekend over Oklahoma Panhandle State.

The Wildcats’ bats finally heated up on a frigid Friday afternoon in two easy victories over the Aggies, 4-0 and 20-1, respectively.

Junior Coy Polk (1-1) was the Wildcats’ winning pitcher in Game 1, striking out seven in a two-hit shutout.

Senior Aaron Lawler (1-0) struck out 10 and gave up six hits to notch the Game 2 win.

ACU then polished off Panhandle by scores of 13-2 and 7-2 on Saturday.

Sophomore Ben Brockman (2-0) was ACU’s Game 1 winner in a seven-strikeout, six-hit performance.

Freshman Ben Maynard (1-0) was the Game 2 winner, giving up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts.

Junior center fielder Chris Judkins led ACU at the plate this weekend with six runs and four RBI in a 4-for-8 performance.

The Wildcats improved to 6-6 on the season and begin Lone Star Conference South play this weekend with a three-game home series against West Texas A&M.
