Seniors set to graduate Saturday: Ceremonies split to accommodate largest-ever graduating class

The largest graduating class in university history will walk across the stage Saturday in two separate ceremonies.

Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement are combined this year, with commencement for the colleges of Business Administration, Biblical Studies, Nursing and Applied Studies at 11 a.m. in Moody Coliseum, and the College of Arts and Sciences at 3 p.m.

Undergraduate rehearsal is at 3 p.m. on Friday in Section A of Moody.

Graduate rehearsal will be one hour before each ceremony in the Gibson Health and Physical Education Center, Rooms 233-234, depending on which college the student is enrolled.

All candidates and their escorts are expected to attend the rehearsals.

Registrar Danelle Brand said at least 500 students will walk Saturday, and an exact number of graduates will not be known until the ceremonies.

Graduates can pick up their regalia in The Campus Store Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Senior Dinner will take place 6 p.m. Friday in the Teague Special Events Center for all graduating seniors and their guests.

Top graduates will be awarded by college, said Jana Graves, executive secretary to the provost.

The College of Arts and Sciences has 11 valedictorians with grade point averages of 4.0.

The salutatorian, with a 3.99 GPA, is a double major but will walk with the College of Arts and Sciences.

Graves said the seniors voted by ballot for who will speak at Commencement and for teacher of the year, and students will not know who is chosen until the ceremony.
