Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is arguably the most conservative candidate running in the primaries.
His stances on many issues echo those of our current president, especially his views on the Iraq War.
He says he will continue the efforts in Iraq and does not plan on setting a timetable for withdrawal. He says on his Web site, “this country has never declared war until ‘a week from Wednesday,’ we have always declared war until victory.” He also plans to continue the war on terror in other places around the world, wants to expand the army and increase defense spending.
His nine-point plan to secure America’s borders against immigration includes constructing a 700-mile-long fence along the border and increasing border patrol.
Like every other candidate, Huckabee preaches an overhaul of the current healthcare system. His biggest claims are that we need to stop shoveling money into treatment of chronic diseases and focus on preventive health care. He also says our business-based system has “outlived its usefulness,” and calls for a consumer-based system – not socialized medicine.
Huckabee favors the Fair Tax plan and wants to eliminate the Internal Revenue Service. He also favors giving line-item veto power back to the president and plans on making Bush’s tax cuts permanent by 2010.
