Abilene saw its first snow of the season as temperatures dropped below freezing Tuesday night.
Patrick McCullough, meteorologist for the San Angelo National Weather Service, said although it rarely snows in Abilene, this is the time of the year to expect it.
“To see snow twice in one week rarely happens in this area,” McCullough said.
McCullough said the National Weather Service predicts cold temperatures the rest of the week and possible snow late Thursday and into Friday.
“Right now, the National Weather Service is saying Saturday, Dec. 5 should be the coldest day this week, with a low of 18 degrees,” he said. The record low for Dec. 5 is nine degrees.
McCullough warned drivers to be careful and to watch for icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses, as snow melts and refreezes on the roads.
