Tarleton State sweeps ACU softball

April 21, 2010 by Zane Goggans

The Wildcats’ three-game series with Tarleton State became a two-game series after Mother Nature washed out the series finale Sunday – but not before the TexAnns took two from ACU on Saturday with 5-0 and 3-2 victories.

The Wildcats actually led 7-1 in the third game before it was rained out. Head Coach Chantiel Wilson said the rainout was unfortunate.

“We needed the win,” Wilson said. “It was hard for the girls because of the way they were hitting.”

The Wildcats have an 18-26 overall record and are only 3-8 in the LSC South Division. The top four teams in each division will make it to the LSC tournament May 6 . ACU is currently 3.5 games behind Texas A&M-Kingsville, who is in fourth place. Only six in-conference games remain in the regular season, making winning a must.

The two losses in Stephenville are devastating to the Wildcats, who are trying to salvage every win with the hope of making it to the LSC postseason tournament in Durant, Okla.

“This group is determined,” Wilson said. “We have the ability to compete and take the series that are coming up.”

The Wildcats played a doubleheader with St. Edwards on Tuesday, __________________________.

The Wildcats’ next LSC series will be this weekend in Abilene against Eastern New Mexico. A doubleheader is scheduled for Friday, and one game will be played Saturday.
