A trip to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., proved successful for three ACU track and field athletes. Amos Sang, Chloe Susset and Anais Belledant all posted qualifying times in their respective events.
The 51st annual Mt. SAC Relays attracted around 15,000 athletes from about 150 different schools.
“Great weather brought a great competition,” comments Assistant Coach Sam Borroughs. “We brought three athletes and all ran very well.”
Amos Sang ran a personal best of 13 minutes, 50 seconds in the 5,000-meter.
“I did all what coach told me to do, so I’m more than happy with the results,” Sang said. He is ranked No. 1 in the event for Division II.
Sang was also named Track Athlete of the Week, posting a second-place time of 29:44.46 in the 10,000 at the Red Raider Open last weekend. However, with the altitude conversion, Sang’s time of 29:15.58 puts him atop the country in the event.
Chloe Susset beat her personal record in the steeplechase by 21 seconds and put up an NCAA provisional time of 11:06. Susset will need to run 10 seconds faster, however, if she wants to qualify for nationals.
“This trip was amazing, and even though I need to get a faster time, it shouldn’t be too hard,” she said. She is currently ranked 22nd in Division II.
Anais Belledant ran 4:34 for the 1,500, an NCAA provisional mark. She is ranked 12th in Division II for the event.
The Wildcats’ track and field team continues its season Wednesday through Saturday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
UPDATE: A previous version of this story incorrectly said Sang ran the 5,000 in a time of 13 minutes, 15 seconds. The correct time, as stated above, is 13 minutes, 50 seconds.
