The ACU Wildcats won their first pair of games at the Washburn Regional Crossover Friday. After a sweep of the Southwest Baptist Bearcats in their opener, 3-0, the ‘Cats then beat Nebraska-Omaha in four games, 3-1.
Because both wins were against regional opponents, the victories will factor into the regional rankings that will be released later this year. ACU has been bumped from the top 8 in the regional rankings the last two years, and have missed out on the playoffs. Big wins like the ones the ‘Cats got today will help them get to the elusive postseason this year.
Coach Kellen Mock and her team can’t spend too much time celebrating their two wins, however. The Wildcats have their two toughest games of the season Saturday when they take on No. 11 Emporia State and No. 12 Truman State. A win against either team will probably be enough to boost the Wildcats into the Top 25 for the first time this season.
The two wins on Friday push the Wildcats win streak to 11 and their overall record 12-2. Game time for ACU’s two matches tomorrow is 9 a.m. against Emporia and 3 p.m. against Truman.
