Campus offers Christmas activities

December 3, 2010 by Jeff Craig

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Abilene, and groups across campus are hosting multiple holiday activities to celebrate.

Edwards Hall hosted its annual Christmas Spectacular on Thursday. The event featured several musical performances by students, free drinks from Monks Coffee Shop and a visit from Santa Claus.

Jordan Bunch, resident director of Edwards Hall, said the event has become a great annual tradition.

“Christmas Spectacular is to have a good time celebrate and the holidays,” Bunch said. “It’s a chance to de-stress before finals and a good way to get people together.”

For students looking to purchase locally-made gifts this holiday season, a craft fair selling homemade art, jewelry, soap and other gifts will be held from 7-10 p.m. on Friday in the Shore Art Gallery. William Reed, senior studio art major from Abilene, is running the fair.

“It’s a great opportunity to pick up locally-made gifts for friends and family,” Reed said.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Women for ACU will be conducting a bake sale from noon-5:30 p.m. Dec. 13-14 at the ACU Museum. All funds raised will be donated to academic departments’ scholarship funds across campus.

Mary Manly, a member of WACU and chair of the museum board, said traditional baked goods will be for sale and items from the museum gift shop will also be available.

“We’ll be selling traditional Christmas goodies such as cookies, pies and cupcakes,” Manly said. “We do this to not only raise support for the scholarship fund, but also for the club.”
