Like a true college student, my diet this week so far has consisted almost only of granola, Rice-A-Roni, and fast food. It’s not that I prefer drive-thru’s to other places, but I can admit that there are those weeks where eating fast food is unfortunately the most practical thing for my budget and my schedule.
However, one place I can go any particular week and not grow tired of is Taco Bueno. I much prefer it over any Taco Cabana, or Taco Bell given it’s recent beef – I’m sorry – “taco meat filling” scandal. I’ve visited the restaurant on Judge Ely a few times this week, and I’m not ashamed. Bueno will always be my first choice when it comes to choosing a Mexican-fast food eatery.
Even last semester, when I decided I wouldn’t eat meat for as long as I could stand it, I still had several options at Bueno. The vegetarian black bean burrito is extremely filling, and the Mexi-dips and chips are too, though neither has any meat in it. When I decided I couldn’t live a life without chicken anymore, the chicken potato burrito, my always favorite, was the first thing I ordered from the restaurant.
I’m almost proud of the little joint just down the street from campus. It is the first Taco Bueno ever built, and I just recently learned that the founder of the company is actually an ACU graduate.
I can only dream that one day I could enjoy Taco Bueno even more conveniently, with a restaurant somewhere inside the campus center. I mean, it happened on King of the Hill, so it’s totally plausible, right?
