Steak, chicken, sushi… Oh my

February 14, 2011 by Meagan Hernandez

When I made the decision to come to Abilene, I knew I was leaving the city lights of my hometown, Dallas. One thing I prepared myself for is having to give up all of the exotic food choices in Dallas.

Thai, Japanese, Greek… and the list goes on and on.

But I learned something after making the move, Abilene has some impressive choices when it comes to food.

I could go on about the many barbecue joints or steak houses, but this time I went on the search for some sushi. Some friends and I found ourselves at Bonsai Japanese Steakhouse located at 1802 South Clack.

I have heard many great things about this place, and it never lets me down.

The aroma of grilled chicken and steak enveloped me as soon as I entered. We were warmly welcomed by a hostess and offered a hibachi table or regular table.

This time we chose a regular table, but if you haven’t tried hibachi, try it. It’s dinner and a show… a very tasty show.

That night I was in the mood for sushi. After a lengthy look at the extensive sushi menu. I chose the Volcano Roll. It’s simple, but delicious and spicy. It’s basically a California Roll topped with crawfish and spicy red sauce.

Ok, so that night I wasn’t very adventurous with my sushi choices, but believe me, if it can be rolled into a roll, Bonsai can make it for you.

Each meal begins with a hot bowl of miso soup or salad. I always choose the miso soup. Green onion, tofu, broth…perfect for a cold night like that one.

This visit was no different from others.

The food is fresh, the prices are reasonable, and the food is authentic and delicious.

So next time you have a craving for some hibachi-style grilled fish, chicken, or steak and some amazing sushi, give Bonsai Japanese Steakhouse a try. It won’t let you down.
