Wildcats take racquets to California

April 12, 2012 by Matthew Sloan

This weekend, the men’s and women’s tennis team will be finishing off their regular seasons by going on a west coast swing to California to take on three different universities starting Friday afternoon.

The sixteenth ranked men’s tennis team will begin the weekend by taking on Azusa Pacific University in an early morning match. Hans Hach and the rest of the talented members of the tennis squad should take care of the Cougars without much trouble and get the weekend started off with a win.

The next day, ACU will descend upon Malibu for the rest of the weekend where they will take on Division One Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon before battling the University of California at San Diego in the last regular season match of the year on Sunday.

The Pepperdine Waves are ranked eight in the nation, so if the ACU remains competitive against the Waves, it will be a good sign of things to come in the post season.

On Sunday, the ‘Cats will look to improve to 7-0 on neutral courts when they take on California at San Diego to finish up their regular season, once again in Malibu.

“It will be fun to finish the year in Malibu,” Michael Morris said. “It is probably the best place in the country to finish your regular season.”

Meanwhile, the sixth ranked women’s tennis team will have even more traveling to deal with, as they will be in three cities in three days this weekend.

The Lady ‘Cats will start the weekend in Azusa, where they will take on the Azusa Pacific University Cougars on Friday morning as well.

From there, the women will head to Los Angeles to play another early match Saturday morning against California State University.

Despite the demanding travel schedule, the team is excited to make their way to California for the weekend.
“I think the trip will be fun for everyone,” Brittney Reed said.

On Sunday afternoon, the ‘Cats will also finish up their regular season against the University of California at San Diego Tritons in La Jolla.

The last week of the season will be crucial for bot the men’s and women’s tennis teams, who will be looking to grab onto some momentum as they head into post season play in a little over a week.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
