You might say I was brainwashed into coming to ACU. From the very beginning, I had "Future Wildcat" stamped on my passport of life. Yeah. I was "that kid." The one whose parents and grandparents had gone to ACU. The one who grew up going to the homecoming parade and Sing Song every year. The one whose grandfather served on the Board of Trustees. ... Anniversary a reminder of creation story
"James Arthur Slater founded the Optimist in 1912." I've heard that statement so many times and said it so often over the past 25 years, it's easy to overlook the true and full story. In the summer of 1912, Jesse P. Sewell was named president of the Campbellite-founded Christian college in Abilene – the fifth president in seven years. He knew ... [Read More…]
Cross-town rivalry renewed
Tomorrow night the long awaited return of ACU football will come to an end, as the Wildcats take on the McMurry War Hawks in an intracity match-up. In an interesting juxtaposition, McMurry will be playing in their first ever Division II football game, while the 'Cats are headed to the greener pastures of the Southland Conference when this season ... Welcome Week sees increase in numbers
Welcome Week brought in over 960 new students, a number significantly higher than recent years. Eric Gumm, director of the First Year Program, said several changes had to be made to accommodate this larger class. Because Sikes is housing freshmen, the hall had to be added to activities involving residence halls. Two new sections of Cornerstone ... [Read More…]
College life approaching grad wakeup
My days are numbered. College is almost over and the real world is getting closer and closer. And it's not the kind where you get to drink and be sexually promiscuous with eight random roommates. It's the kind where a body running solely on Ramen drags itself from interview to interview before finding somewhere to spend the rest of your life. One ... [Read More…]
New provost makes quick impact
ACU's new provost has only been in office for a few months, but has revived dead day, facilitated searches for three permanent deans and created plans for supporting the campus following budget cuts. Dr. Robert Rhodes was named provost in early April and began serving in the position July 1. After reviewing student and faculty responses to the ... [Read More…]
