The Abilene Christian softball team played a three-game series against the TexAnns of Tarleton State this past weekend at Wells Field, winning Saturday night’s game on a late rally in the sixth inning.

The team recorded all seven of their runs at the top of the sixth, when errors were made by the TexAnn defense.

The win extends their overall record to 19-16 and 3-6 in the Lone Star Conference.

Junior pitcher Peyton Mosley recorded just three hits and struck out four batters to place the team in the win column at the end of the series. Mosley’s win places her record to 4-6 on the season.

The second game of the series on Saturday was difficult for the ‘Cats to swallow. Heading into the top of the seventh with the game tied 2-2 the TexAnns scored three runs, giving their first win of the series.

Starting pitcher for the TexAnns, Randy Fentress deserved the win after her defensive and offensive day.

Not only did she record just four strikeouts, but she lifted her team’s spirits when she singled to left field to start the rally in the seventh inning. She finished her offensive effort retiring seven of the last eight batters in the Wildcat lineup.

The second game, first of Saturday’s doubleheader was a nail biter as well.

Starting pitcher Brenna Hennan threw a complete game striking out a whopping ten Wildcats, including just giving up three runs on four hits. The team couldn’t seem to find Hennan’s strike zone.

“She did a good job of mixing it up well, keeping everyone on their toes,” leadoff hitter Keanna Winkfield said. “She didn’t really have a set pattern to what she was throwing.”

The ‘Cats return to action Thursday and Friday for another three-game series in Kingsville against LSC foe Texas A&M-Kingsville.
