An Intro to Business Venture Out Project caused a team of students to raise funds for Locks of Love. Through selling hair accessories the students want to raise funds and make the women of campus to look ‘cute for a cause’.

For their Intro to Business Venture Out Project, Kaitlyn Renner, freshman accounting major from Tuscola, and her team, decided to sell hair accessories in order to raise money for Locks of Love.

“We want ACU students to feel beautiful but, at the same time, donate money to make other girls feel beautiful,” Renner said.

Renner said the matter is personal to her because her grandmother died of cancer before she was able to really get to know her.

“It’s always on my mind, the fact that there’s not a cure,” she said.

The group is selling a variety of bows and headbands, including 25 fabric bows from Etsy, each with a unique design.

“You are the only one that’s going to have this design if you buy this certain bow,” Renner said. “They’re all different; none of them are the same.”

Renner said she believes that this project will help ACU students contribute to something bigger than themselves.

“We, as privileged students, struggle with how we feel about our appearance, so I can’t imagine anything better than to find a way to give these girls a reason to feel pretty, too,” she said.

Shelby Lastly, junior elementary education major from Burnet and owner of a collection of 42 bows, said she would definitely buy a bow.

“I wear them anyway, so why not buy one to help?” Lastly said.

Lastly said the bows are a great accessory because no matter how little time she spends fixing her hair, it always ends up looking put together with a bow.  She said ACU students should buy into the idea of looking cute for a cause.

“They’re helping out Locks of Love and, also, they get to have a cute little hair accessory, so when you roll out of bed you can look good,” Lastly said.

Carleigh Wieder, senior youth and family ministries major from North Richland Hills, who is a self-proclaimed bow-lover, said she has three drawers of bows and hair accessories.

“I think they’re fun and they make me smile,” Wieder said.

Wieder has donated her hair to Locks of Love twice and said she thinks it is a great way to give back.

“Hair is a really big part of a girl’s life and I know, personally, my hair is really special to me,” Wieder said. “I think it’s a great way to give back to them a part of who they are.”

The headbands are $2.50 and the bigger bows, available in 8 different colors, are $5. The Etsy bows are on sale for $9.

Students can purchase these items on Fridays in the Campus Center.
