Tennis to end season in Memphis

November 1, 2013 by Price Bahcall

The ACU women’s tennis is heading to Memphis, Tenn. this weekend. The women will be participating in their final tournament of the fall season at Memphis Fall Invitational.

Micah Hermsdorf, senior ad/PR major from Spring, who went deep into the consolation bracket at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Texas Regionals, said there is more to tennis and competition than just winning.

“Winning is always nice, but not really the goal. With this last fall tournament, I just hope to play to the best of the ability God has given me and enjoy playing the sport,” says Hermsdorf. “Having a positive attitude, enjoy the competition and leave it all out on the court.”

Hermsdorf believes the team is making a name for itself in Div. I competition and is satisfied with the way the fall season has gone.

“I couldn’t have been more happy with how we all competed at Regionals a few weeks ago. We all helped represent and make a name for ACU,” said Hermsdorf. “Div. I schools are going to know us for our strong heart and competitiveness because we don’t give up and rise to a tough level of play. We didn’t win all the matches but we showed how we are going to be as a Div. I school.”

She is excited to see what the ACU women can accomplish next semester.

Sophomore tennis player Jason Proctor has seen great plays from the women so far this season.

“I have been impressed with the girl’s level of play and I expect they will be very successful in the upcoming tournament,” Proctor says. “Our girls’ team has a great level of young talent and senior experience.”

Now that the men’s tennis season is over, Proctor and the men’s team will begin training for next season.

“As our fall season ends, we will begin a rigorous training schedule. This schedule will consist of mainly running and weight lifting, and playing tennis will be expected as well,” said Proctor.

Tennis is not only a game of physical strength but also one of mental toughness. Being successful in tennis means keeping one’s mind on the right track, which can get difficult.
