Women’s tennis to play two tournaments

September 9, 2014 by Victoria Rodriguez

Beginning this Friday, Sep. 12, ACU’s women’s tennis team will be going their separate ways- to compete in two different tournaments. Although the first two tournaments of the season may fall on the same weekend, the Wildcats are still expecting unified results.

Four players from the team- senior Brittney Reed, junior Kaysie Hermsdorf, sophomore Erin Walker and freshman Lucile Pothier- will make the drive to Midland, Texas to compete in the Racquet Club Invitational. Junior Nada Marjanovic, sophomore Ansley Boarman and freshmen Whitney Williams and Carli Knezevich will remain at home in Abilene to play in the Wal-Mart Open.

“I’m excited for the Midland Tournament,” Hermsdorf said. “There are going to be a lot of top Div. I schools there which means some really good competition.”

Hermsdorf, along with her three other teammates, are expecting tough competition in Midland but are also confident that they can compete. The Wildcat’s doubles squads have upheld a winning tradition for many years and this year’s team expects only to add to that tradition.

“We have always been strong in doubles and I feel like we are prepared to compete and win.” Hermsdorf said. “I’m really excited to go out and represent ACU.”

The tough competition, however, won’t just be in Midland this weekend. The Wal-Mart Open will host an impressive roster from the Wildcats as well as their opponents.

“I think the team has been training really hard,” said Williams. “And as long as we work hard, no matter what, I think the results will show.”

Although the team may be divided, their good spirits and confidence are united as they approach their first two tournaments.

“I hope that we can all represent ACU to the best of our abilities through our attitude and by giving our all on the tennis court.” said Williams.

Both tournaments begin at 8 A.M on Friday, September 12 and wrap up the following day.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
