The Netflix Fix: Odd Thomas

October 18, 2015 by Mercedez Hernandez

NR (suggested PG-13), 1HR. 37 MINS.

Odd Thomas is a campy mystery comedy that blends a touch of humor with a touch of horror. Thomas, played by Anton Yelchin (Fright Night, Star Trek: Into Darkness) is a short-order cook who is clairvoyant and can see the spirits of the dead. Thomas uses his gift to keep his town safe and bring justice to those whose deaths were not so peaceful. When Thomas begins to see more of the ghostly Bodachs, who are omens of death, he, his girlfriend Stormy and Police Chief Wyatt Porter, played by Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man) , search for a way to stop an impending event that will lead to the deaths of many townsfolk.

Odd Thomas is based off a series of novels by Dean Koontz and incorporates elements that make the movie feel similar to that of a book, with voiced-over inner monologues of Thomas’s thoughts included throughout the film. This movie is perfect for easygoing scary movie viewing for the early weeks of October.
