Women’s tennis wins one loses one in Dallas

The women’s tennis team took a short trip to Dallas Tuesday to face Southern Methodist University and Dallas Baptist University in some interesting matches.

In singles, the Wildcats did well as they won four out of the six matches against DBU. They also earned two tough victories out of six against SMU, dropping the other four.

Seniors Nada Marjanovic and Kaysie Hermsdorf were the only two to win both their singles matches against Dallas Baptist and Southern Methodist. Marjanovic put on two great performances as she beat Fernandez de Camilo of DBU, 6-1, 6-0, and Ana Perez-Lopez of SMU, 6-4, 6-2. Hermsdorf defeated Liz Slaughter from DBU 6-0, 6-4, then played a very exciting match against Vaszilisza Bulgakova from SMU and won 4-6, 6-4, 13-11.

“Today our team really showed how we are right up there at the level of top Div. I schools,” Hermsdorf said. “We really came together and had high energy against SMU. Some of the ones lost could have definitely gone in our favor. In my match I had to keep being the aggressor and taking the opportunities to win the point first.”

In doubles, ACU was impressive, pulling out a sweep against the Patriots, 3-0, and getting one victory out of three against the Mustangs.

Sophomore Andrea Crook was impressive as she teamed up with junior Erin Walker to defeat their opponents out DBU, 8-7, 8-6. Crook also teamed up with Marjanovic to beat their competition from the host Mustangs, 6-0.

Marjanovic recorded her second doubles victory of the day, as she teamed up with Hermsdorf to take down their competitors out of DBU, 8-3.

“I was really glad to be able to get out there and get the wins, especially against SMU,” Marjanovic said. “We knew they’d be a tough team as we had really close matches with them last year. We wanted to get out there strong from the start in the doubles and I feel like the one and three matches could have gone either way. Andrea Crook and I really came out with high energy and were really happy with how we played.”

The women’s team score was a 5-0 win against DBU and a 5-2 loss against SMU. The next match ups for the Wildcats will be Saturday in Lubbock as they go up against Texas-Permian Basin at 11 A.M. and Texas Tech at 4 P.M.
