SRWC to Rent Out New Equipment

March 24, 2016 by Trevor Wyatt

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center now rents out equipment for hammocking, camping and paddleboarding.

Douglas Sierra, senior information business major from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, is in charge of renting equipment and said the it is top-of-the-line and people should be excited for this opportunity.

“We have ENO double-net hammocks with Atlas Suspension System straps, which means the hammock can hold two people and should take no time at all to set up,” Sierra said. “It’s very easy and fun to use. We’re also renting out Coleman tents that can hold either two, four or six people and are very easy to set up, taking anywhere from two to five minutes. Lastly, we have the paddleboards, which are one-person but top-rated, light weight and really easy to use.”

Aaron Pokluda, sophomore multimedia major from El Paso, said he thinks the equipment is worth the price you pay.

“I was really excited to see the equipment set out for everyone to see,” said Pokluda, who is also an Eagle Scout. “It definitely makes me interested to see what they have to offer and brings me back to my days as a Boy Scout. The equipment really was top notch and fits into any lifestyle, from a casual who wants to stay under the stars to a hardcore camper who wants to go out and explore the wilderness. It’s definitely worth renting, or at least checking out, the equipment.”

The prices for hammocks start at $3 for an hour and $80 for a semester. Tents start at $8 and go up to $150 for a two-person, $10-$170 for a four-person, or $12-$190 for a six-person, ranging from a nightly rental to a semester rental. Paddleboards start from $5 and go up to $400, from an hourly to a semester rental. Students can pay with cash, credit card or charge to student accounts.

Flyers are available with more information at the front desk of the SRWC, as well as detailed descriptions of the equipment and prices. Anyone interested in renting the equipment can go to the front desk of the SRWC, or call at 325-674-6600.
