Wildcat tennis dominates Ojai’s doubles championships

April 26, 2016 by Max Preston

Both the men and women’s tennis teams competed in Ojai, California this weekend for their final tournament of the season. They went out with a successful end winning both the men and women’s doubles championships.

Both Wildcat duos of Henry Adams and Jason Proctor, along with Nico Agritelley and Josh Sheehy battled their way to the doubles championship and played each other in the final.

Proctor and Adams got the best of Agritelley and Sheehy winning by a score of 7-6. This final doubles victory for Proctor sends him out of ACU with a 54-45 career doubles record.

“It was a great experience being in the finals playing another team from ACU because we knew the Wildcats were going to win no matter what,” Sheehy said. “This tournament was a great way to end the season and I can’t wait to do it again next year.”

The two doubles teams for the women, Kaysie Hermsdorf and Lucile Pothier and Erin Walker and Whitney Williams, also went the distance to play each other in the doubles championship.

Hermsdorf and Pothier came out on top by a score of 8-7. Hermsdorf was also able to fight her way to the singles championship, but lost to Mary Zhao from Grand Canyon by a score of 6-4, 6-0.

“This last tournament ever was just an amazing experience,” Hermsdorf said. “It wasn’t about the winning, it was about the team experience and just feeling good about how I was going to end playing. There was no pressure coming into the tournament because I just wanted to enjoy playing and have fun. I ended up doing well individually and our team won the team award so it was a great way to go out.”

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
