Golf returns with tenth place finish from Pearland

October 16, 2016 by Hannah Null

The golf team finished 10th this week in the 13-team field, which included four teams from the Southland Conference. ACU shot a three-round total of 25-over-par 889 at the Bayou City Collegiate in Pearland, Texas.

Finishing in front of Southland Conference opponents Houston Baptist (892) and Sam Houston State (893), junior transfer G.K. Morrison and sophomore Garrett Glanton contributed to the scoring.

With a par of 72, Morrison shot 73 in the final round on Tuesday while Glanton added a 71.

Morrison transferred from Louisiana-Monroe this year, but has already found himself in the top-five at ACU.

“I plan on continuing to work on my strengths and I have some weaknesses that need to be addressed after this week as well,” Morrison said. “It was a good week for Garrett (Glanton) and I, but I know we all have things we can improve on and work towards. Main thing for myself, is to keep working on the process.”

Morrison went into the final round tied for 24th, but gained momentum and jumped up eight spots on the leaderboard to finish the tournament.

The team believes they have the talent and commitment to win a Southland Conference title this year.

“The team is working hard and working on the right things,” said Morrison. “We’re going to keep improving. Our goal is to get the Southland Conference championship. And we expect to keep improving and be ready when that event comes.”

As a team, ACU shot rounds of 299-293 on Monday and finished up with a score of 297 Tuesday.

The team has a few weeks off to improve their game before finishing the fall season at the East Bay classic in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The men are then set to host the 32nd annual Byron Nelson Golf Tournament in Fort Worth on Monday, Nov. 14.

To register for the Byron Neslson and help raise money for the Byron and Louise Nelson Golf Endowment at ACU, you can register online at www.acu.edu/alumni.

Registration fees are $1,200 per foursome or $300 per player.
