Students respond to Abilene Zoo swan boats

April 7, 2017 by Tori Aldana

Community members can rent swan paddle boats from the Abilene Zoo to ride on Nelson Lake.

Weather permitting, people can enjoy these boats from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students looking for something unique to do with their significant other might want to try this new activity.

“It’s a different idea for a date; it’s a different idea than just a dinner and a movie,” said Drew Hanson, junior accounting and finance major from Coppell. “It gets you outside instead of staying inside and doing something.”

Espy Harper, junior social work major from Conroe, also said the idea is a different way to go about a date. “It seems like it’d be fun,” she said.

Magda Rodriguez, from Mission, and her boyfriend Raiden Sawyer, both sophomore English majors, said the idea was cute.

“I’d probably consider going because it would be a fun and enjoyable morning outing, and it gives you something to do in Abilene,” said Sawyer, who is from Oklahoma City.

However, not everyone agrees it is the best option for a romantic date.

“I wouldn’t because it seems really cliche and really sappy, but that’s just me,” said Kayla Hicks, sophomore English major from Burnet.

The boats cost $4 per person to rent and hold three people, so you could always take along a third wheel if it seems too romantic for you.
