Cheer team seeking Willie the Wildcat candidates

April 6, 2018 by Ashley Alfred

ACU Cheer will conduct interest meetings for those interested in becoming Willie the Wildcat for the next school year.

“We are looking for someone who loves ACU athletics and wants to be a part of creating spirit around campus and at sporting events,” said cheer coach Megan Hector.

The meetings will take place from 5-6 p.m. April 19 and from 2-3 p.m April 21.

“It’s a really rewarding experience when you get to see the little kids and how excited they get,” said Annette Roberts, sophomore athletic training major from Forney and current Willie the Wildcat. “I love being able to make people smile and laugh, and that’s something I get to do a lot as Willie.”

There is no prior experience necessary to become Willie the Wildcat. However, whoever accepts the role will need to be available to attend select football, volleyball and basketball games as well as may community events.

“Acting as Willie the Wildcat is an amazing way to connect,” said Austin Welborn, senior marketing major from College Station and former Willie the Wildcat. “I have never felt more a part of ACUs mission than when I get to cheer on our sports teams, hi-five kids and put a smile on people’s faces.”
