Wildcats go 2-2 in Georgia Tech tournament

August 27, 2018 by Lexi Kirgan

The Volleyball team started off the season 2-2 at the Georgia Tech tournament in Atlanta.

On Friday, the Wildcats swept through Georgetown and Winthrop winning both games to start off 2-0. The team then faced Georgia Tech and Idaho State Saturday, and lost both matches dropping ACU to 2-2.

During the first day, sophomore outside hitter Katelyn Mueller was ACU’s leading scorer with three aces, three blocks and 36.5 points on 32 kills.

Mueller ended the tournament as the team’s offensive leader with 68.5 points, 19 kills and eight aces.

She said that the big key to their success the first day was how well everyone was playing together.

“Everyone on the court and on the bench was giving their best,” Mueller said. “I’m so thankful for this team because we are all playing so hard for each other and that showed today.”

On Saturday, senior middle blocker Lauren Walker had seven kills and one ace against Georgia Tech.

Senior setter Kendall Bosse had a strong tournament posting a total of 158 assists. The statistic was also good enough to land Bosse the honor of making the all-tournament team.

Walker said Bosse stood out the most this tournament.

“She really did a great job leading us and adjusting with us while making some incredible plays.” Walker said.

The Wildcats next welcome Big 12 competitor Texas Tech to Moody Tuesday evening.

This will be the sixth time in the last six years the Wildcats have faced the Red Raiders. It will also be the first time since 2013 that they pay a visit to Moody, when the two teams faced each other back-to-back at their respective arenas.

The first serve is set for 6 p.m.
