ACU first faced LSU early in the day and lost three sets to one.
In the first set, the Wildcats fell 25-19, but stepped it up in the second and won 27-25. They couldn’t hold on, however, and eventually lost the third set 25-17 and the fourth 25-17.
The team had a break after the loss to LSU, but came back in the evening to face the host, SMU.
It was an evenly matched performance from the two teams, but the Wildcats fell short three sets to two.
In the back and forth battle, ACU dropped the first set 25-22, but bounced back in the second set with 25-22 win of their own.
After coming back in the second, set they couldn’t hold on dropping the third set 25-14.
It was crucial for the Wildcats to win the next set to keep them in the game which they did winning 25-21. In the tie breaking fifth set, ACU couldn’t pull through losing 15-10 to conclude the match.
Amanda Chapa, junior libero/defensive specialist, said she knows her team has to come together to get the job done in the future.
“We learned that it’s not just enough to come out and compete against really good teams. We have to know that we can and we will get our jobs done. Whether that ends in a win or a loss matters, but also knowing at the end of the day, we played our style of volleyball.” Chapa said, ” I think that’s what we have to start owning up to after every game. I think moving forward, we know that it’s ultimately up to us to get to work and really be the aggressor.”
The Wildcats will start conference play Thursday night against Lamar in Moody Coliseum for their second home match. The game will start at 6 p.m.
