ACU’s Josh and Johnathan Sheehy made strong showings in singles and doubles matches in Waco at the ITA Men’s Texas Regionals as they took down Power 5 competitors from the Big 12.

Josh Sheehy beat Texas Tech’s No. 10 Parker Wynn, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3), then advanced past No. 7 Sven Lah from Baylor via retirement after going up 2-0 in the first set.

In doubles, the Sheehy brothers teamed up to take down the nationally fifth-ranked duo from Baylor of Will Little and Johannes Schretter, 8-4.

Josh Sheehy said he believed the team belonged in the tournament, and was proud of the team’s success.

The men’s team has one more tournament this fall as they travel to Phoenix for the GCU invitational Nov. 2- Nov. 4.

Autumn Woods and Nini Memishishi led the women’s team in their final fall season tournament in College Station with nine wins.

Woods advanced the furthest by beating Incarnate Word’s Jelena Dordan, 6-4, 6-1, before advancing past the second round by upsetting Sam Houstons State’s Sahaja Yamalapalli, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0. Woods lost in the third round to Southland Conference rival Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s Marina Miquel, 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Jordan Henry defeated SFA’s Armelle Cerdan, 6-3, 6-1.

Junior Sarah Adams, freshman Allison Stewart and freshman Sylvia Viljoen als0 w0n.

Adams defeated Rishona Lewis of Texas State, 6-0, 6-4, also beating players from Prairie View A&M.

Woods said the team will continue to work hard in practice as they prepare for the spring season.

“Now that we are in offseason, our hours are shorter but they will just be as intense,” Woods said. “We will have a lot of weight lifting, we will have individual practices where we can focus on our game and how to improve our personal game.”

The women’s team kick off their spring season in Denton, as they face UNT.
