Women’s cross country takes first at UIW

October 7, 2018 by B. J. Maxwell Jr.

The Wildcat men and women’s cross country teams competed this past weekend at the UIW Invitational.

Junior Carnley Graham from the women’s team and Freshman Levi Chambers from the men’s team led ACU individually during their respective races.

Graham, who recently received her third Southland Conference runner of the week award, led the women’s team to a first-place finish at the meet. Sophomore Hannah Marut also placed third during the race.

“This weekend’s race at UIW was pretty awesome, everyone raced very well, and we came together as a team,” said Marut. “We are looking forward to doing very well in the conference.”

The men’s team finished sixth at the meet despite only entering with five runners. They were led by Freshman Levi Chambers who finished the 8k with the fastest time for the men’s team with a time of 27:12.0.

“As a team, we went in with a game plan and didn’t execute and our placing reflected that,” senior Travis Nichols said. “Each one of us competed hard but we were certainly missing some key pieces.”

The Wildcats will next be competing in the Southland Conference Championships Friday, Oct. 26.
