A Cappella Choir tours high schools for recruitment

November 15, 2018 by Hannah Johnson

The A Cappella Choir rehearsing with director, Dr. Jeff Goolsby, and accompanist, Judy Brown.

The A Capella Choir will perform at five high schools in San Antonio for this year’s tour.

Maggie Dye, sophomore ad/PR major from Carrollton and member of the A Capella Choir, said the purpose of this tour is to recruit students to attend ACU and join the music department.

The theme of this year’s tour is Faith, Hope and Love.

Previous tours have been in the spring, however, this influenced how many high school seniors expressed interest in joining the music department.

“That’s why we’re trying to go in the fall this year: to see if we can catch some seniors,” said Jessica Beghtel, senior marketing major from Bedford and vice president of the A Capella Choir.

Previous tour destinations include Odessa, Midland, Lubbock and Amarillo.

The A Capella Choir left Thursday and will and return Monday for its Coming Home concert.

This year will be the first year the coming home and fall concerts will be combined into one event. During the concert, the A Capella Choir will sing the songs performed on tour. The University Chorale will also perform at the concert.

The coming home concert will be at St. Paul Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m.
