SGA offers incentives for game day participation

November 15, 2018 by Lauren Franco

For the last home football game of the season, the Student Government Association (SGA) will offer incentives to both individual students and student groups to attend the entirety of the game against UCA.

Social clubs and student organizations will receive $4 per member in attendance for the entire game, and individuals will be entered into a drawing to win a 55-inch flat screen TV in the first quarter, a $1000 scholarship in the second quarter, an Apple Watch series 4 in the third quarter or a $2ooo scholarship in the fourth quarter.

An anonymous donor came forward with the intent of driving student involvement, according to Ty Kelley, executive president of SGA.

In addition to the incentives, SGA and the Alumni Association are awarding $500 each to the best social club tailgate overall and for the individual game, respectively.

The SGA tailgates are judged by anonymous Student Life representatives in the categories of appearance – outfits, merchandise, decorations and set up; entertainment – food, group/club activities, games and experience and atmosphere –attendance by students and alumni, music and spirit.

Each club also has the opportunity to win that week’s creativity bonus, which gives them an additional 10 points.

Kelley said SGA is doing everything it can to support the Wildcats across all sports because they see the need and importance for student attendance at all sporting events.

“We wanted to do whatever we could to get students there,” Kelley said. “Our student athletes really care about it, and it means a lot to them to see fans not only supporting them for that game, but fans who are loyal that actually care what they are doing on the field.”

The game against the UCA bears starts at 2 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium, and concludes the regular season for the Wildcats. ACU is 6-4 overall and 5-3 in conference, and has the potential for an at-large bid to postseason play with a win this weekend.

Students who attend the game will only be allowed to claim one organization, meaning students involved in multiple organizations, or a social club and an organization can only check in for one.

Attendees will be required to check-out of the game at the end of the fourth quarter by completing an online exit form.
