Wildcats take down Nicholls at home

November 1, 2018 by Lexi Kirgan

The Wildcats faced the Nicholls State Colonel’s in Moody Tuesday evening and swept them in three straight sets.

ACU won the first set 25-15, the second 25-22 and the third 25-16.

Katelyn Mueller, sophomore outside hitter was a big contributor to the Wildcats win.

Mueller said getting the win was a great way to start off the week they have.

“It was a great team win for us to sweep Nicholls going into this week of conference play,” Mueller said. “We have some big teams to play next so it was great for us to start off with a sweep before we go on the road.”

Mueller has been a big contributor for the Wildcats since her freshman year. She had nine kills, five aces and one block in Tuesday’s game.

Another big contributor to the Wildcats win was Kennedy Shelstead, redshirt junior middle blocker.

Shelstead said she knew coming into the game that Nicholls was a team they could beat, they just had to focus and do what they know they could do.

“Well coming into this game I knew that we could win but as a team we had to focus on playing our game and taking care of business,” Shelstead said. “The 2 previous games were rough but it was good to come into tonight firing in all cylinders to get our confidence where it needs to be headed into these next 2 games.”

Shelstead has had a big impact for the Wildcats ever since Lorin McNeil has been out with an ACL injury. She had seven kills and seven blocks in Tuesday’s game.

The next team to beat on the Wildcats schedule is No. 3, Central Arkansas.

Shelstead said the focus of the game will be on the little things.

“The focus for the next game on Thursday is gonna be on ourselves and what we do best,” Shelstead said. “We play amazing when we do the little things! When we have the right focus on each other and playing for the team we will succeed. We all know we can compete at a high level and beat this team but we will do it together as a team playing for one another.”

The Wildcats take on Central Arkansas Thursday at 6 p.m.
