The Wildcats finished its three-game road trip this Saturday after defeating Northwestern State 72-63 in Prather Coliseum.
Junior guard Dominique Golightly led the way for the Wildcats scoring 19 points on 7-11 shooting. She was dominant inside the paint with eight rebounds and even hit three three-pointers finishing with a career high 39 minutes of play.
Golightly said her team is constantly trying to improve every game.
“The atmosphere is positive and my teammates and I are constantly striving to work harder to be better than we were in our last game.” Golightly said.
Junior forward Lexie Ducat and Senior guard Sara Williamson were also key in the victory. Ducat finished with 17 points and six rebounds shooting 70 percent from the court while Williamson finished with six assists and a team high three blocks.
ACU got off to a quick start scoring 21 points in the first quarter and shooting 53 percent (14-26) in the first half. They led by as many as 16 points (36-22) in the first half with a little over two minutes left in the second quarter.
The Lady Demons had a challenging time getting shots to fall in the first half shooting only 33 percent (8-24). They also fell into a -7 rebound margin by halftime trailing 38-28.
Senior guard Nautica Grant for Northwestern State played well totaling 15 points in the second half and finishing with 24 points on 7-10 shooting draining a career-high seven three-pointers in the loss.
Despite a record breaking evening for Grant, the Lady Demons couldn’t recover from their all-around poor shooting finishing the game 38 percent (21-56).
With this win, the Wildcats only sit half a game behind Stephen F. Austin and Lamar for first place of the Southland Conference. Up next, they return from their three-game road trip to battle SFA in a crucial conference matchup Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, Northwestern State hopes to avoid extending its three game losing streak when they travel to Huntsville to play Sam Houston State Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
