Senior tennis player Josh Sheehy was named the first Southland Conference player of the week of 2019.
The Wildcats are off to an impressive start currently sitting at 4-2 with both of their losses coming from Oklahoma and Texas A&M, both nationally ranked teams.
His most impressive win this season was January 13th playing doubles against #13 Oklahoma winning 6-4.
His partner during that matchup is actually someone Sheehy has known for quite some time, his brother. Junior Jonathan Sheehy was ranked in the top 10 in Texas for best tennis players and top 70 nationally. He followed his older brother here to ACU where they’re often paired for doubles matches.
Sheehy said he’s excited to see what the rest of the spring season will bring.
“It’s awesome to have season going strong again,” Sheehy said. “Spring season of college tennis has produced my favorite tennis memories in my life with the opportunity to play as a team. Our goal this year is definitely to win conference and I know we have a great shot at it with the new additions coming to our team this year.”
Both Josh and Jonathan Sheehy won Southland Conference Freshman of the year awards and haven’t slowed down since.
After facing Tulsa and Nebraska-Omaha, Josh Sheehy and the Wildcats travel back home to face Trinity University and Tyler Junior College next Saturday.
