Student Night replaced with Wildcat Discount Night

February 7, 2019 by Hannah Johnson

Student Night, formerly the Thursday before Sing Song, will be replaced with Wildcat Discount Night.

In the past, students paid $5 to see the final Sing Song rehearsal in Moody Coliseum, with open seating available.

Nick Tatum, director of student productions, said he made the decision to eliminate Student Night, and replace it with a more finalized production.

“This year, I was relooking at the schedule and it would really benefit us if we had an additional day of practice,” Tatum said. “Not having an audience on Thursday would allow us to do that.”

Unlike Student Night, this discounted night will take place on Friday. Students, faculty and staff will choose their seats ahead of time and pay $7.50 – half of the regular ticket price – to see the completed show.

“I kind of anticipated some people would be confused or angry, but we’ve only had positive feedback,” Tatum said.

To get the discount, students, faculty and staff must visit acustupro.com/wildcatdiscount and use the discount code featured on the banners and flyers that the Wildcat Discount Night team members are using to promote the event.

Ty Kelley, senior information technology major from San Antonio and student body president, is a member of the team advertising Wildcat Discount Night.

“We’re in the process right now of getting the word out because it’s such a new thing,” Kelley said. “So our team has been working to communicate with on-campus resources and putting up banners around campus.”

The team has also been promoting Wildcat Discount Night through advertisements on myACU and banners on the sides of campus buildings.

Kelley said this change will increase the number of audience members and enhance the performances for those who wish to attend at a discounted rate.

During Wildcat Discount Night, the audience will be able to enter a drawing to win prizes.

Kelley said replacing Student Night with Wildcat Discount Night was less about removing Student Night, and more about enhancing the Sing Song experience.
