Wildcats swept by Northwestern State, fall to 7-15 on the season

March 21, 2019 by Owen Simpson

The Wildcats’ struggles continued last Friday and Saturday as they were swept in a three game-series against the Lady Demons of Northwestern State. With those three losses, the Wildcats are on a four-game losing streak.

On the first game Friday, ACU struggled to get runners home. They finished with nine hits, but only two runs, losing the matchup 7-2.

Sophomore outfielder E.C. Delafield for the Lady Demons started off a four run third inning with a two RBI triple to give Northwestern the commanding lead. She finished the outing perfect going 3-3 with four RBI’s and two runs.

The second game Friday night didn’t get any better for ACU as they were shut out 8-0 in just five innings of play. The matchup was fairly even until the bottom of the fifth, when Northwestern batted in six runners to end the game.

Junior outfielder Hayley Barbazon for Northwestern finished the day 2-4 with two runs and an RBI to compliment her solid outing.

Their final game Saturday at 1 p.m. was more of the same for ACU. The Lady Demons exploded on offense to win 9-0 in five innings. The Wildcats were limited to just two hits offensively and defensively struggled with three errors.

Junior Samantha Guile for the Lady Demons pitched the entire game to improve to 3-6 on the season. Meanwhile, Freshman Jillian Hefner replaced starting pitcher Calie Burris after two innings, but Hefner allowed five hits and six runs in just 0.1 innings to put the Wildcats in a hole they wouldn’t escape.

The Wildcats are now sitting 10th in the Southland conference at 1-5. Meanwhile, Northwestern is battling for control at the top with a tie for first place with Lamar.

Up next, ACU will be back home for a three game series as they take on Nicholls this Friday and Saturday. Later, they’ll host North Texas Tuesday at 6 p.m.
