Student Productions and A Cappella Chorus filming videos for Homecoming

October 10, 2020 by Maci Weathers

Due to COVID-19, videos will be recorded of the A Cappella Chorus instead of an in person concert this Homecoming.

A Cappella filmed two songs this Wednesday and will film “Oh Dear Christian College” in the Stadium later in the week. The two songs they filmed were “From Here On In” by Lisa Gutkin and Woody Guthrie and “Go Down, Moses” by Micheal Tippett.

“We can’t have concerts indoors with audiences, that is across the board in music,” said Dr. Jeffery Goolsby, director of choral studies. “We are looking for new ways to perform and share our work with audiences.”

Each song will be filmed on their own and then compiled with different songs filmed by both the A Capella Chorus and Student Productions. One instrumental group and one A Cappella group from Student Productions will lead worship in a video, as well.

“This is a pre-recorded performance, so we are going to take the best performance from the recordings,” Goolsby said. “It’s a good part of our students’ education to get this experience of recording.”

Jessica Diaz, president of the A Cappella Chorus and senior vocal music education major from Abilene, said that this opportunity to grow the choir and give attention to them.

“It will hopefully bring more attention to our choir because there is now access to these videos anytime,” Diaz said. “It won’t be live so the videos can be as good as they can be.”

A Cappella filmed these videos at First Baptist Church and the Wildcat Stadium. Videos made will be compiled together into one video for people to watch at any time. These videos will be released in a virtual homecoming email during homecoming weekend.
