ACU men’s Tennis went 0-2 on the weekend, while the women’s tournament against the University of Texas-El Paso was postponed due to weather conditions. 

The Wildcats took on Brown University on Friday and No. 33 Baylor on Saturday.

Plagued with injuries, ACU went a combined 0-11 on the weekend. However, despite the score, the team fought hard while missing many of their key competitors. 

After losing Jose Maria Rastrojo for the entire season, ACU missed Cesar Barranquero and Dario Kmet for both matches on the weekend, all due to injury. 

Despite the losses, head coach Juan Nunez was happy with the fight his team showed.

“Our guys fought and had a chance, no guys felt like they weren’t going to win,” Nunez said. “I felt like we were going to win no matter who was playing. We were right there on both of the doubles matchups.”

There were many bright spots for the team this weekend and most importantly getting freshmen valuable experience against tough opponents. 

Noah Wheen, freshman from London England, saw action in both singles and doubles. 

Along with Wheen, Ethan Scribner, freshman from Plano, gained great experience against Baylor. Scribner and Savan Chhabara, senior from Irving, won three sets in a game that went unfinished.

Nunez said this experience will help both Wheen and Scribner down the road. 

“I felt like giving our freshmen a chance to play this weekend will pay off, if not this year then the rest of their career at ACU.”

Both the men’s and women’s teams are back in action this weekend as the women travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on the University of Tulsa on Saturday, March 4. The men are at home against Lamar on Friday, March 3.
