Women’s Tennis Sweeps Weekend Matches

February 6, 2024 by Raissa Malu-Malu

The women’s tennis team rebounded from a tough loss last weekend to earn two key home victories this weekend.

On Saturday, the Wildcats hosted Dallas Baptist and cruised to a dominant 7-0 win. According to the match report, ACU swept the doubles matches to grab the early lead. In singles play, the Wildcats continued to roll, winning every match in straight sets.

“We competed really well,” said head coach Bryan Rainwater. “Olivia Sears played really, really good tennis and kind of just destroyed her opposition. I think just everybody overall, really getting out and competing.”

The next day, the Wildcats stayed home and earned another victory, defeating Texas-Permian Basin 6-1. ACU once again started strong by taking the doubles point. Andrea Guerrero and Masha Vrsalovic secured one doubles win, while Libby Blair and Eva Arranz clinched the other.

In singles action, Olivia Sears shined again, winning easily 6-0, 6-0. Guerrero, Vrsalovic, Blair and Arranz also won their singles matches in straight sets to seal the win.

“I’m happy to get out of here with two wins but we have to play better,” Rainwater said.

The successful weekend at home moves the Wildcats to an overall record of 2-4 on the season. They will now set their sights on a weekend road trip to New Mexico on February 17, where they will face the University of New Mexico and Northern Arizona University. Match times are still to be announced.
