University Park application process underway

February 9, 2024 by Brylie Mahar

University Park (UP) hosted an open house night on Feb. 7 and 8 from 8-10 p.m. and a potential roommate meet and greet at the same time. The tour allowed the students to see the available room sizes, clubhouse and laundry room.

Lindsey Griffis, the director of UP, is working with ResLife to get everything ready for their lottery process.

“The application is available for new applicants now in your MyACU Housing Portal,” Griffis said. “We recommend applying ASAP before the lottery starts on Feb. 19.”

UP is an apartment complex that is owned by ACU. Only ACU students can reside here. The only exception is if an ACU student is married to someone who is not a student. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students are allowed to live in this complex.

“I really appreciate that UP hosts an open house,” said Adriana Amaya, sophomore elementary education major from Savoy.“I would love the opportunity to live there, and seeing my potential space helps me to prepare and think about my options.”

After the application is completed, students will be entered into a lottery system for the rooms they are interested in. There are three living space options. The efficiency apartment is 495 sq. feet and $3,700 per semester. The two bedroom, two bathroom apartment is 610 sq. feet and $2,875 per semester, per roommate. The four bedroom, two bathroom apartment is 873 sq. feet and $2,450 per semester, per roommate. The two and four bedroom apartments are furnished. For all of the rooms, utilities are included.

Peyton Brenner, senior kinesiology major from Aledo, currently lives in one of the efficiency apartments.

“I love having the option to have a space to come back to that is my own at the end of the day,” Brenner said. “It has also been really nice to live in an apartment, but also be on campus so I can just walk everywhere I need to go. UP has a nice, quiet little community to it, and I have enjoyed the opportunity to live here.”

The lottery times for efficiency room selection will be released on Feb. 19 and selection will be on Feb. 21. Times are released for the two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on Feb 26 and selection is on Feb. 28. The four bedroom, two bathroom apartment lottery is released on March 4 and selection is on March 6. General selection will open on March 20.

Questions can be emailed to Griffis at ljh09a@acu.edu and ResLife at reslife@acu.edu.

“This is a very competitive process, so make sure you have a plan B and C just in case you don’t get your first choice!” Griffis said.

My second year at ACU was full of opportunities that grew me as an individual and a journalist.

In my first year as editor in chief of @acuoptimist, we published six print issues, filmed a 3-hour live election show, and revamped our newscast, all while producing news weekly.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
