Elections, annual budget meeting lead SGA’s 102nd year

August 28, 2025 by Makayla Clayton

The Student Government Association is preparing to serve the student body for the 102nd year, starting with elections and the annual budget meeting.

Upcoming Senate Elections
While the executive cabinet is already in place, students wanting to be involved in SGA still have the chance by running for Senate. The last interest meeting was yesterday, but Adele, senior criminal justice major from Midland, encourages students who are passionate to email the vice president, Zeke Whisenhunt.

“We can see if there’s something we can do,” Adele said. “Especially if none of the dates or times we provided work for you, please email ASAP.”

The 2025-26 Executive Officer Team

  • Tamil Adele (senior criminal justice major from Midland) – President
  • Zeke Whisenhunt (senior engineering major from Greenbrier, Arkansas) – Vice President
  • Clayton Jones (senior finance major from McKinney) – Treasurer
  • Maddie Grace Fridge (senior child and family services major from Sugar Land) – Chief of Staff
  • Paxson Wecker (senior information systems major from Sherman)  – Chief Financial Officer
  • Nevaeh Ortiz (junior psychology major from Fort Worth) – Director of Student Engagement and Recruitment
  • Ava Morris (senior marketing major from Cedar Park) – Marketing Director
  • Yeeun Goh (senior advertising and public relations major from Ikeda, Japan) – Press Secretary

Whisenhunt, senior engineering major from Greenbrier, Arkansas, said students running for Senate are petitioning by getting signatures from their peers until Tuesday. Campaigning will start the following Wednesday and continue until voting concludes. Voting will start Sept. 4, after chapel, and conclude Sept. 5.

“Please vote in the elections when they come out,” Adele said. “Please be receptive to the people coming up to you. They’re probably going out of their comfort zones, and ultimately, these people are running because they want to represent you, so give them a chance and hear them out.”

Each class will elect 10 senators, one multicultural representative, one vice president and one president to represent the student body.

Annual Budget Meeting
SGA has organized its annual budget meeting for Sept. 10, and student organizations will meet with SGA Treasurer Clayton Jones starting Tuesday. This year, the campus has more student organizations than ever, and a larger budget to allocate.

“Seeing some of the stuff that the student orgs did last year was just awesome,” said Jones, senior finance major from McKinney. “I’m trying to help everyone succeed. That’s my goal.”

SGA funds are predominantly derived from the activity fees of on-campus students. For the 2025 fall semester, $50,000 will be allocated to student organizations.

“That will be split up partially with the budget we give them, and then travel funding, fundraising matching and event-based funding,” Jones said. “So we use all of those different things to help divide up the money.”

Several ACU students were removed from the seating behind the Utah Valley bench late in the fourth quarter while arguing with UVU fans. After a conversation with ACUPD and other staff members, they were relocated to the stands near the UVU bench on the south baseline.
