The Baylor Bears traveled to Abilene after freezing weather knocked out the planned Baylor Invitational and proved why it is one of the best teams in the country.

In the the opening game the Lady Bears defeated the Wildcats 3-0 and scored all of their runs in the 2nd inning when Bears center fielder Jessie Scroggins doubled to center and brought home two runs, scoring outfielder Madison Kettler and second baseman Nicky Dawson. Left fielder Kyla Walker hit another scoring shot for the 3-0 final.

ACU’s Hannah Null went the distance and was tagged with the loss, as Baylor’s Gia Rodoni allowed just two hits.

In the second game of the series, the Bears hit early and often in a 13-2 pounding of the Wildcats. The scoring started off when Carlee Wallace and Shelby Friudenberg scored in the top of the first, but junior Donelle Johnson was able to power a solo shot over the left field wall to cut the lead to 2-1.

Baylor took control from there with four more runs in the second inning and piling another seven on in the 5th inning. ACU would get just one more run when Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn’t near enough.

The Wildcats are now 4-7 on the year and continue their difficult non-conference stretch when they travel to Norman for a four game series with Missouri State and defending national champion Oklahoma.
