With one game left in the regular season and one Southland Conference Tournament bid on the line, the Wildcats find themselves in dire need of a win.

In fact, ACU not only needs to beat Incarnate Word on Saturday, but the Wildcats also need a little help from Lamar and Houston Baptist if they hope to snag the last tournament bid.

ACU, McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi each sit at 7-10 in conference, but because both the Cowboys and the Islanders have a wins over Southeastern Louisiana on their resume, the Wildcats need both to falter on Saturday.

The men find themselves in this situation after a buzzer-beater loss at home to Central Arkansas and a 76-56 drubbing that came at the hands of Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday.

ACU never led in the game, and the Wildcats saw just one player reach double figures, as the Lumberjacks improved to 87-4 at over the last five seasons. A few bright spots for ACU came in the form of sophomore B.J. Maxwell, who posted a career-high 13 points, and 37 points that the bench poured in.

So now it all comes down to three games Saturday. The Wildcats and Islanders have the two easiest games of the teams fighting for the final spot. Both take on 2-15 opponents on the road.

Meanwhile, McNeese welcomes Lamar, who enters the game ranked fifth in the conference at 11-6.

ACU defeated Incarnate Word 80-69 earlier this season, and TAMU-CC bested HBU 79-69 when the two met back in January. McNeese lost its previous match up to Lamar 86-80.

And finally, the Islanders are the only team of the three entering Saturday’s slate of match ups after a win. They defeated McNeese 82-70 on Wednesday, which caused the three-way tie at eighth spot.

If all three teams win on Saturday, TAMU-CC would get the nod because it holds the tie-breaker over both ACU and McNeese.

The Wildcats’ win over UIW in February was the program’s first since moving to Div. 1. Tip-off for McNeese and ACU is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the Islanders start at 7 p.m.
