Volleyball continues win streak defeating NSU

October 19, 2018 by Lexi Kirgan

The Wildcats kept their win streak alive tonight beating Northwestern State in four sets.

They are currently on a four-game win streak with seven regular season games left to play.

ACU won the first set 25-19, but lost the second 25-27.

The Wildcats stepped it up and won the third set 25-23 and won the fourth set 25-17.

A big contributor to the Wildcat’s win was Lily Drever, senior libero and defensive specialist.

Drever said that the energy coming into the game was high especially it being a home game.

“Our energy was very high going into the game,” Drever said. “We felt confident and were determined to start off by winning the first set.” “For one, being home we wanted to win. Every game we have to fight to win, it isn’t going to be given to us. So after losing we all had a moment of “ok we need to focus in and get these last two sets.”

Drever had three assists and 32 digs for the Wildcats.

Kennedy Shelstead, redshirt junior middle blocker has really stepped up for the Wildcats since sophomore Lorin McNeil has been out.

Shelstead said that being ranked number 3 in the Southland Conference standings feels good, but they are focused solely on themselves and staying focused.

“It truly feels amazing to be ranked 3rd,” Shelstead said. “But in all honestly we aren’t focused on our ranking we are focused on each day in practice getting better and doing what it takes to beat our next opponent.”

Shelstead had 7 kills for the Wildcats.

Southeastern Louisiana will come to Moody to take on the Wildcats Saturday.

Drever said that the thing that will help them win is staying focused and doing what they know how to do.

“Our focus on Saturday will be being disciplined,” Drever said. “If we do what we’re supposed to it will be a good game. Also, staying focused the whole time. We have moments where we can get goofy and forget what we’re supposed to do, so just being on top of our game the entire time.”

The game will start at 1 p.m.
