ACU falls to TXAM 9-3 in College Station

March 7, 2019 by Breven Campbell

The ACU baseball team played their second game against a nationally recognized and ranked team of the season on Wednesday. The team traveled to College Station and took on the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Wildcats did not back down from A&M and started the game off strong with a two-out RBI single, in the top of the first inning, from Robert Salazar that brought in Dalon Farkas. ACU led the 20th ranked team, 1-0 going into the bottom of the first.

Texas A&M, however, proves why they are a top 20 team in the country. The Aggies come out in their first at bat and lay it on the Wildcats, with a few hits, but they capitalized on ACU’s errors. With no outs, the Aggies bring in two runs giving them the lead. An error with two outs, scored another run for the Aggies and got another runner on base. A&M takes advantage of the situation and hits a two-run home run. The score after one inning was 5-1.

A&M adds another run off an RBI single in the second inning making the score 6-1.

Luis Trevino made his way all the way to third base, but ACU continues their season-long struggle by leaving runners on in scoring position.

In the fifth inning, Trevino made an impact and hit a sacrifice fly RBI. The score was 6-2 with two runners still on and only one out. Errors were a problem for A&M this inning. On one error, Farkas scores home all the way from second base. ACU closed the gap to 3 runs after the top of the fifth.

However, in the sixth inning the Aggies put the game away with a three-run inning. With the bases loaded, David Ruot gave up a three-run double. Neither team scored the rest of the game giving the Aggies a 9-3 win.

ACU will start conference play on the weekend when they go up against Northwestern State.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
