Hanson leads baseball to revenge on UT-Arlington

April 3, 2019 by Breven Campbell

ACU lost to UT-Arlington earlier in the season at home, but Drew Hanson and the Wildcats got even with the Mavericks this week.

Drew Hanson was on the mound for the Wildcats on Wednesday. Hanson had a perfect outing, not allowing a single baserunner. Hanson pitched 5.2 innings, ending the night with 17 strikeouts on 76 pitches.

At the top of the fourth inning, Luis Trevino, catcher, brought in Dalon Farkas, singled earlier in the inning, for the first run of the game to give ACU a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats were not done there- with two outs, Koby Claborn doubled to left to bring in Derek Scott that gave ACU a 2-0 lead.

ACU put two more runners on base in the fifth inning, but failed to capitalize when two runners were on and there were no outs in the inning.

Hanson kept this game scoreless in his outing, so the fifth inning did not come back to bite the the Wildcats.

Ryan Randle brought in Claborn on a two-out RBI double to left field off of former ACU pitcher, Nick Skeffington. Randle made the game 3-0.

Hunter Spaeth came into the game in the sixth inning for Hanson. In the sixth, the Mavericks got their offense started off with a triple, but Spaeth managed to get out of the inning and kept the Mavericks scoreless. Spaeth did his job and was replaced by Brennan Lewis in the eighth with two outs and two runners on. Lewis got ACU out of the inning and kept runs away from Spaeth.

Matt Munoz earned the final run of the night on a homer to right field in the top of the ninth inning. This run gave ACU a little more breathing room.

The Mavericks made a last chance effort in the ninth inning scoring two runs, but fell short with a final score of 4-2.

The Wildcats are back home this weekend as they prepare to face Grambling State in a three game series.

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
