ACU Dining expands grab-and-go option at the Bean

January 20, 2021 by McKenna Holman

The Bean continues to undergo changes to protect the health and safety of its guests during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic in March, ACU has made an extensive number of changes to ensure a safe return for students to campus in August. ACU Dining has implemented various different changes and opportunities for safe on-campus dining.

Senior director of dining, David Casida said “we are constantly working with faculty and staff, adjusting standards for on-campus dining.”

The university’s dining services have already implemented a multitude of grab-and-go options. Students are able to swipe into the bean and grab a ready-to-go meal and take it to their residence.

“We require our staff to wash their hands when we come into work and there are multiple sanitation stations all around the bean and campus center,” said Casida. “We have also limited self-serve options for students in order to have minimal contact on each service.”

In addition to the new options for grab-and-go, there has also been increased student participation in those opportunities to safely dine-in and take food to-go.

“I enjoy being able to walk in, quickly grab something and go on with my day,” said Tatum Gradke, sophomore kinesiology major from Grapevine. “It is very convenient for my busy schedule.”

Casida said “ACU Dining will continue to make necessary changes throughout the semester to ensure the safety and well-being of the students, faculty and staff.”

"Ending my college education early was always the plan for me, but the things that I have been able to see, experience and examine about ACU’s community were not. I have found immense growth in ACU over the past three and a half years, but ACU still has a long road to climb if it wants to keep catering to students as the world changes around them."
